The combat was bland, but not in an offensive way pretty much generic D20 plus lightsabers. But I think its execution is the clunkiest of the three. Admittedly, I played it after playing those other two, so maybe it felt slightly fresher when it was new, when the various "inevitable Bioware game mechanisms" were being trotted out for the first time. Out of the incestuous trilogy of KOTOR, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect, I definitely think it's the weakest of the three.

I guess I'm in the minority I didn't like KOTOR. Fun the first time, but what a time sink. Wiped the floor with them by then, though. I forgot about them, and came back later on a side quest to get something for the Jedi lady, a recording of her father IIRC, and accidentally tripped the fight. I forget how it all goes down, but they come up on speeders, and if you hold to the right as you leave, you will actually walk right by them. Knowing it from the beginning is just not as fun.īonus points: You know you can skip the bounty hunters at Tattoine? I always found them to be one of the hardest fights. Once you know the twist, you can't unlearn it. As much as I want an evil female character to run through it to see the other end of the story, I just can't be bothered. You spend so much time customizing characters and walking around big empty areas with random fights which are cool the first time, but it's hard to push myself to do it again.

It's a good game indeed, but the replay value is next to zero. I wouldn't even bother with mods, I have yet to see any that are worth messing with. Better to play it on a PC, less intrusive, more natural that way. KoTOR is a good game, but I would note a few caveats:ġ. (Hint: Google 'KOTOR Boring' and look at the 2 million plus hits) If KOTOR wasn't Star Wars, I doubt it would be as popular as it is. The OP needs a viewpoint beside the lovefest found here, and I gave a rather good rundown on why or why not my opinion will matter to him. Borderlands also deserves some honorable mention. FYI: Fallout 3 was a great RPG (despite the dialog trees) and Torchlight was a rather good RPG-light. Stop with your knee-jerk reaction and read my post for comprehension, because you suck at it. So you don't like RPGs, say that, don't say KOTOR sucks because it is one of the bellwethers of the entire genre of games.ĭear fanboi, your ass is showing and your lack of intelligence. But it's easily worth a try for just a few bucks.

It's easy to try new skills and end up wasting points on bad upgrades and with a bunch of crew members, it's really easy to head off in the wrong direction.įor me, this is easily the most overrated game only after FarCry. Once you get a few set heal/attach/special attack moves down they can be repeated ad nauseum. Each crew member can be upgraded (IIRC), but you'll tend to pick a favorite few and ignore the rest. There are a ton of missions and side-quests, most rather unrewarding.įor combat, it's live with a pause option for turn-based thinking. There's a very large girth of content and multiple crew to bring with you for combat, but it's rather overwhelming. While it started off rather strong with a very coherent story, it got boring way before the end of the game and the story very watered down.

The old school dialog tree adventure mechanic really doesn't do it for me, and this game is full of it. if the gameplay is really awesome then its overcomeable.ĭepends on your taste of gameplay.
